Anabelle's nursery "theme" is calm, serene and relaxing. It is everything I envisioned it to be when I was pregnant. Before she was born, I would sit in her room imaging what it would be like to be a new mother with her precious body in my arms. I also anticipated being a mother circa 1950 with my hair and make-up always done, dressed in the most gorgeous mommy ensemble, a pristine house and an effortless smile perpetually on my face. Hah. What a fantasy world I was living in pre-baby.
Since my not so little toddler is seventeen months now, there is no newborn equipment laying around. When she was an itty bitty baby, we had her swing in the corner and the crib mattress was higher. I also had this sweet creme-colored laundry basket lined with gold studs. It was ruined about 2 months in after I threw a urine soaked onesie in it while deep in a fog of sleep deprivation.
This room was a labor of love folks. We worked tirelessly for months getting it together. I went through about twelve samples of different shades of purple just to pick this wall color. It's still a little darker than I prefer, and I plan on lightening her room once we transition in it into a toddler room. My husband doesn't know yet, so he's in for a pleasant surprise.
I originally tried to do this print on the wall, but these rollers are not for the faint of heart. My parents, my husband and I all tried to get this roller to looks as snazzy as it does at their Etsy shop, but it just wasn't happening. I still have that roller lying around for when my craft skills are more advance, which is probably happening never. Instead, I stenciled Chrysanthemum's on the wall. I really love the way they turned out.
The animal prints are probably my favorite addition to the nursery. Since Anabelle is a genius with animal sounds, she points these out nearly every night. Her favorite is the duck, but all the prints are super adorable. The dress hanging on the wall is from her baptism when she was a little over two months old. It holds deep sentimental value and I don't think I can ever take it down.
Mr. Zebra has been around since Anabelle was born. She sleeps with him every night, or should I say on top of him. He really needs to be washed. Can you tell? I hope not. Also, the curtains majorly shrunk in the wash and I never replaced them. Don't judge me.
The photo of the origami crane mobile was taken with my phone before she was born. I'm telling you, the photo does not do that beautifully crafted piece of art work justice. It was so gorgeous. You read that right: was gorgeous. It ended up getting tangled somewhere along the way and I let it hang there for months taunting me. I tried for hours (yes, hours) to untangle the mobile, but I failed. Miserably. I even contemplated hiring a professional detangler. Do those even exist? Well, they should because now I have fourteen origami cranes that need a home.

DeleteOh my, what a beautiful nursery! I especially love the flowers stenciled on the wall, just gorgeous. I am a big fan of calm rooms for little ones. I wanted my Liam's space to be simple & cozy, but then add more color & "noise" to his playroom. Excellent job mama!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I think her room helped her be a relatively easy newborn. I think ;)
