Independence Day Weekend

We woke up bright and early and got busy to making our 4th of July themed waffles. Anabelle helped to mix and stir the batter. She is becoming the best sou-chef.

The best part is, she is learning to start cooking and baking at an early age. I mean what if she becomes the next Giada De Laurentiis? I'm getting a little ahead of myself, I know. It could happen, though. Just saying... Of course, what Independence Day would be complete without a little arts and crafts?

We use the following DIY finger painting recipe:

  • 3 tablespoons of sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

  • 1/2 cup cornstarch

  • 2 cups of water

Combine all the ingredients in a small sauce pan over low heat until the mixture thickens. Add desired food coloring. The only downside is that the food coloring dyes her little porcelain skin. You win some, you lose some.

We visited grandma and grandpa decked out in our red, white and blue attire.

There was lots of swimming, songs, eating, laughter, and family friendly fun. We watched a few minutes of fireworks before we went home, because this sweet girl was so exhausted. You know those kids that can fall asleep anywhere? Yeah, that's not my kid.

It rained a lot this weekend. Of course, we couldn't let the weekend go by without playing in the rain. That's what childhood (and a warm bath afterwards) is for.

What a beautiful weekend with this kiddo. She amazes me with something new everyday! I'm so blessed to have her in my life. Being a parent is the best decision I've ever made.
